The Bridegroom

This may seem like an unusual Name
for my Names of God on Rocks post,

...But it is in the Bible!

You may be familiar with the story Jesus told in Matthew 25:1-13
about the ten virgins
who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
(If not, click on the highlighted reference above to read it for yourself!)

In this story Jesus refers to Himself as the Bridegroom.
"But while they (the virgins) were on their way to buy the oil,
the Bridegroom arrived.
The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet.
 And the door was shut.
Later the others also came.
'Sir! Sir!' they said. 'Open the door for us!'
But he replied, 'I tell you the truth, I don't know you.'
Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. "

Alpha and Omega

Here we go again with another round of the Alphabet with Jenny Matlock!

Since Alpha stands for the beginning of the Greek alphabet,
and Omega stands for the end of it...

And since we are beginning a new round of A to Z,
this Name for God seemed an appropriate choice!

"I am the Alpha and the Omega
the beginning and the end," says the Lord God.
"I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come
— the Almighty One."
Revelation 1:8

My Zest!

Did you know "Zest" is mentioned in the Bible?!!!
    ...and we're not talking soap!

"Light, space, ZEST— that's God!
So, with Him on my side I'm fearless,
afraid of no one and nothing."

Psalm 27:1

My "Yeshua"

For my birthday, my oldest daughter gave me a "Names of God" Bible.
This Bible translates the names and titles of God from their original Hebrew language.  It is from this translation that I found my "Y" post for Rock4Today!

John says he wrote "so that you would believe
that Yeshua is the Messiah,
the Son of God,
and so that you will have life by believing in Him."

John 20:31 (Names of God Bible)

in reading where the name "Yeshua" originated.)

Only one more letter to go in this round of Alphabe-Thursdays
See you right here for it next week!

My eXample

We're about to finish up on another round of Alphabet with Miss Jenny!
This week will be the challenging letter "X"!
As you can see, I cheated a bit on this name for God...

It was raining outside when I took this picture,
which makes this rock look like a large wet bedroom slipper
or wooden shoe!

I thought that a shoe was appropriate to represent this name for Jesus,
because He said this after washing the disciples' feet:

"If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet,
you also ought to wash one another's feet.
For I have given you an eXample,
that you should do as I have done to you."
John 13:14-15

Thanks for stopping by!

My Wonderful Way-Maker!

"See, I am sending an angel ahead of you
to guard you along the way
and to bring you to the place I have prepared."

My Victory

"This is love for God: to obey his commands.
And his commands are not burdensome,
for everyone born of God overcomes the world.
This is the victory
that has overcome the world,
even our faith.
Who is it that overcomes the world?
Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God."
1 John 5:3-5
