The "Firstborn"

"She brought forth her FIRSTBORN son,
and called His Name JESUS"
Matthew 1:25

"He is the image of the invisible God,
the FIRSTBORN of all creation.

For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
 visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
 All things were created through Him and for Him.
And He is before all things and in Him all things consist.
Colossians 1:15-17

The FIRSTBORN in Bible days held the highest honor in the family.
Jesus, as the Son of God, holds the highest honor in God's family.
"He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead.
So He is the first in everything."

Or to read the same verse from  the NIV translation::
"And He is the Head of the body, the church;
He is the beginning and the FIRSTBORN from among the dead,
so that in everything He might have the supremacy."

Jesus was the FIRST to be resurrected from the dead with a resurrection body
that would never die again.

"For God knew His people in advance,
and He chose them to become like His Son,
so that His Son would be the FIRSTBORN
among many brothers and sisters.
And having chosen them, He called them to come to Him.
And having called them, He gave them right standing with Himself.
And having given them right standing,
He gave them His glory."

My nephew Joel, who fought a valiant fight against glioblastoma,
is now seeing the GLORY OF GOD in person.
It was his desire that "the glory of the LORD would be revealed" through his life.
I believe this was accomplished!

Our Spiritual ROCK

 Jesus Christ

 "Our Spiritual ROCK"

Our Source of Living Water

The LORD said to Moses,
"Strike the Rock,
and the water will come gushing out"
Exodus 17

Footnotes from Blue Letter Bible state that
"This rock, which is a vast block of red granite,
15 feet long, 10 broad, and 12 high,
lies in the wilderness of Rephidim, to the west of Mount Horeb, a part of Sinai.
There are abundant traces of this wonderful miracle remaining at this day.
This rock has been visited, drawn, and described...
...holes and channels appear in the stone,
which could only have been formed by the bursting out and running of water."

The story in Exodus 17 is an interesting one
when the LORD gave water to thirsty Israelites,
but what I find even more interesting is what that ROCK represents.

The Apostle Paul makes that clear in 1 Corinthians 10 when he writes,
"they drank from the Spiritual Rock that traveled with them,
and that ROCK was CHRIST."

Jesus Himself made the statement,
"He who believes in Me,
as the Scripture has said,
out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."
He spoke this concerning the Spirit,
whom those believing in Him would receive.

I've read those verses many times,
but it really sunk in today when I realized that
given to us from Jesus Christ, our Spiritual Rock!
I am so thankful for this Gift of Living Water!

Thanks for your visit!
Hope to see you again soon on Joy4Today when I find another topic
that I just can't keep to myself and have to share!

Christ - The Power of God

"But we preach Christ crucified,
unto the Jews a stumbling block,
and unto the Greeks foolishness;
But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks,

Christ the Power of God"
1 Corinthians 1:23-24

"Ah, LORD God!
Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth
by Your great POWER and outstretched arm.
There is nothing too hard for You."

"He gives POWER to the weak,
And to those who have no might

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"

Once again, thanks for your visit!
Hopefully, I'll have a post soon on Joy4Today!
My lap top has not been connecting well with the internet,
so I'm having to use my husband's PC when he's not on it!

"This is a statement that can be trusted:
'If we have died with Him, we will live with Him.
If we endure, we will rule with Him.
If we disown Him, He will disown us.
If we are unfaithful,
because He cannot be untrue to Himself."
2 Timothy 2:11-13

"...The LORD your God is indeed God.
who keeps His covenant for a thousand generations,
and lavishes His unfailing love
on those who love Him..."
Deuteronomy 7:9

The LORD, the GOD of Israel

I, the LORD, will hear them;
I, the GOD of Israel, will not forsake them.
I will open rivers in desolate heights,
And fountains in the midst of the valleys;
I will make the wilderness a pool of water,
and the dry land springs of water...
That they may see and know,
And consider and understand together,
That the hand of the LORD has done this,
And the Holy One of Israel has created it.
Isaiah 41:17-18 and 20

"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
'May they prosper who love you.

Peace be within your walls,
Prosperity within your palaces.'

For the sake of my brethren and companions,
I will now say, 'Peace be within you.' "

The Bread of God

Last year when my little sis came to visit and stayed at our farmhouse,
she left a priceless little farewell thank-you gift on the night stand.

Apparently this little book has been in print for nearly a century,
and has been reprinted many times.
It has short devotionals for each day of the year,
and they only take a minute or two to read.
I've been reading it every night before I go to sleep.

Although I had featured Jesus as the "Bread of Life" in a previous post,
this little book made me aware of other titles having to do with BREAD.
(Photo by Tricia Turner - Blogger @ Expeditions by Tricia.
Click on highlighted letters above to take you to her blog.)

The one that stood out to me the most last week was
"The Bread of God",
and came from the verse in John 6:33 (KJV) where Jesus says,
"For the bread of God is He which cometh down from heaven,
and giveth life unto the world."

The little book is available from Amazon
if you are interested in getting it for yourself or as a gift.
(Click on AMAZON to take you to that link.)

Maybe it's because I am a bread lover that
the words that stood out to me from the July 10th reading were,
 that nothing will ever satisfy people's hunger except for
"For He satisfies the longing soul,
and fills the hungry soul with goodness."
Psalm 107:9 NKJV

Coming Soon!

I wasn't thinking of that title as a name for Jesus
as I began writing this post.
I don't have it painted on a rock,
but it could be!

In Revelation 3:11, Jesus said,

and again in Revelation 22:7,

What I was thinking about,
and am very excited about,
is a new book!

I just received my copy in the mail yesterday from Amazon,
and what is even better yet,
the author is going to do a "guest post" for Rock4Today
in the near future.

So, be watching for it!
It will be COMING SOON!

Also coming soon on Joy4Today,
a  post featuring a few flowers from my garden.

Thanks for dropping by!

The Just One

 "The Just One"

This name for Jesus has been swirling around in my mind this week.
I guess because I've had a few conversations with God
about what seems to me to be an injustice!

"Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"

It is the LORD who "weighs the hearts".

"Behold, your King is coming to you;
He is JUST and having salvation."

"The God of our fathers has chosen you
that you should know His will,
and see the JUST ONE,
and hear the voice of His mouth."

Acts 22:14

Yes, Psalm 27:13-14, has really applied to our family this week.
"I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Wait on the LORD;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the LORD!"

Yes, God is JUST,
and God is GOOD,
...And I trust Him.

I'm working on an unusual post for Joy4Today,
and it should be ready before long!

Thanks for your visit!

My Burden Bearer

Cast your burden on the LORD,
And He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

“I removed his shoulder from the burden;
His hands were freed from the baskets.
You called in trouble, and I delivered you;
I answered you in the secret place of thunder..."

 "Casting all your care upon Him,
for He cares for you."

Sela Hammahlekoth

"The Rock of Escape"

In the story of King Saul's pursuit of David,
Saul was closing in on David.
There appeared to be no way of escape available to David and his men.
They were HEMMED IN,
with NO OPTIONS but to trust the LORD (YHWH).

God used a mutual enemy to distract and divert King Saul.
"Then Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to meet the Philistines.
That is why they call this place Sela Hammahlekoth"

"Sela Hammahlekoth" means
"Rock of Escape".

David said,
"Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers;
The snare is broken, and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD (YHWH),
who made heaven and earth."
Psalm 124:7-8

It's no wonder that one of David's Names for God is
Psalm 18:2  and 2 Samuel 22:2 both ascribe this Name to God,
and state they were written after David escaped from the hand of Saul.
"The LORD is MY ROCK, my Fortress, and my Deliverer;
My God, my Strength, in whom I will trust."

I've been a bit sluggish about new posts on Joy4Today,
but hope to fit one in soon between graduations,
awards ceremonies, gardening and other wonderful spring activities!
