The Bread of God

Last year when my little sis came to visit and stayed at our farmhouse,
she left a priceless little farewell thank-you gift on the night stand.

Apparently this little book has been in print for nearly a century,
and has been reprinted many times.
It has short devotionals for each day of the year,
and they only take a minute or two to read.
I've been reading it every night before I go to sleep.

Although I had featured Jesus as the "Bread of Life" in a previous post,
this little book made me aware of other titles having to do with BREAD.

The one that stood out to me the most last week was
"The Bread of God",
and came from the verse in John 6:33 (KJV) where Jesus says,
"For the bread of God is He which cometh down from heaven,
and giveth life unto the world."

The little book is available from Amazon
if you are interested in getting it for yourself or as a gift.
(Click on AMAZON to take you to that link.)

Maybe it's because I am a bread lover that
the words that stood out to me from the July 10th reading were,
 that nothing will ever satisfy people's hunger except for
THE BREAD OF GOD.
"For He satisfies the longing soul,
and fills the hungry soul with goodness."
Psalm 107:9 NKJV

Coming Soon!

I wasn't thinking of that title as a name for Jesus
as I began writing this post.
I don't have it painted on a rock,
but it could be!

In Revelation 3:11, Jesus said,
"I AM COMING SOON"!

and again in Revelation 22:7,
"LOOK! I AM COMING SOON!"

What I was thinking about,
and am very excited about,
is a new book!

I just received my copy in the mail yesterday from Amazon,
and what is even better yet,
the author is going to do a "guest post" for Rock4Today
in the near future.

So, be watching for it!
It will be COMING SOON!

Also coming soon on Joy4Today,
a  post featuring a few flowers from my garden.

Thanks for dropping by!

The Just One

 "The Just One"

This name for Jesus has been swirling around in my mind this week.
I guess because I've had a few conversations with God
about what seems to me to be an injustice!

"Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"

It is the LORD who "weighs the hearts".

"Behold, your King is coming to you;
He is JUST and having salvation."

"The God of our fathers has chosen you
that you should know His will,
and see the JUST ONE,
and hear the voice of His mouth."

Acts 22:14

Yes, Psalm 27:13-14, has really applied to our family this week.
"I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Wait on the LORD;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the LORD!"

Yes, God is JUST,
and God is GOOD,
...And I trust Him.

I'm working on an unusual post for Joy4Today,
and it should be ready before long!

Thanks for your visit!

My Burden Bearer

Cast your burden on the LORD,
And He shall sustain you;
He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

“I removed his shoulder from the burden;
His hands were freed from the baskets.
You called in trouble, and I delivered you;
I answered you in the secret place of thunder..."

 "Casting all your care upon Him,
for He cares for you."

Sela Hammahlekoth

"The Rock of Escape"

In the story of King Saul's pursuit of David,
Saul was closing in on David.
There appeared to be no way of escape available to David and his men.
They were HEMMED IN,
with NO OPTIONS but to trust the LORD (YHWH).

God used a mutual enemy to distract and divert King Saul.
"Then Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to meet the Philistines.
That is why they call this place Sela Hammahlekoth"

"Sela Hammahlekoth" means
"Rock of Escape".

David said,
"Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers;
The snare is broken, and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD (YHWH),
who made heaven and earth."
Psalm 124:7-8

It's no wonder that one of David's Names for God is
"MY ROCK"!
Psalm 18:2  and 2 Samuel 22:2 both ascribe this Name to God,
and state they were written after David escaped from the hand of Saul.
"The LORD is MY ROCK, my Fortress, and my Deliverer;
My God, my Strength, in whom I will trust."

I've been a bit sluggish about new posts on Joy4Today,
but hope to fit one in soon between graduations,
awards ceremonies, gardening and other wonderful spring activities!

Beyond our Understanding

Sometimes we think God is silent,

when His answer is just beyond our understanding!

Then Manoah asked the Angel of the LORD,
"What is your Name?"
..."Why do you ask My Name?"
the Angel of the LORD replied.
 "It is too wonderful for you to understand."

Actually, the LORD had given Manoah two of His names,
but Manoah did not recognize them as such.
Both of those names have been used in prior posts.

One comes from Isaiah 9:6: "His Name shall be called Wonderful"
The other name was subliminally given to Manoah.
The Name "I Am" was used in Elohim's answer to Manoah,
when Manoah asked, "Are you the Man who spoke to my wife the other day?"
God's answer was a simple "I AM".

Sometimes we think God is silent and not answering us,
but it's just that we don't realize that the answer is really there...
It's just beyond our understanding!

The Sweet Sound of Intimate Names

Last year I did a post entitled
and as I awakened this morning that title was on my mind.

I thought of how special it makes me feel
when someone recognizes me and speaks my name.

I thought of the nicknames that my husband and I gave
to our children when they were very young,
and how it still delights them when we call them by those names.

And then I thought of all these names for God
that I have been posting the last four years...
And I felt that still small voice of the Holy Spirit whispering to me
that God Himself likes for us to call Him by name, too.

I remembered God's words to Moses in Exodus 6:2 when He said,
"I am Yahweh - the LORD.
I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob
 as El Shaddai - God Almighty -
but I did not reveal My Name Yahweh to them."

In Psalm 18:46 King David spoke OF God as His Rock,
but in Psalm 28:1, he spoke directly TO God as His Rock.

As I started off my day today,
I talked TO the LORD, My Banner,
thanking Him that He was going ahead of me today,
...and in my heart I felt His smile!

The ONE

When I first started painting God's Names on Rocks,
I never realized what a never-ending job it could be!

Just recently on Blue Letter Bible, I pulled up all the references
that pertained specifically to God as "The One".
In writing down a long list, I began to see that this blog could go on forever!

I guess I feel a little like the Apostle John, who said in John 21:25
that the whole world could not contain the books that could be written about Jesus!
He went on to say in John 20:31 that these things were written that
"that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God,
and that by believing you may have life in His NAME."
 Thank you for allowing me to present some of HIS NAMES to you in this blog!

So today, I am just going to remind you of some of the posts that were done in the past,
and am considering taking a blogging break for awhile.
(These previous posts can be found by searching the blog archive column on the right)
Thank you so much to all of you that have stopped by!

While taking a blogging break from Rock4Today,
I am still doing posts on Joy4Today when I have
some exceptional photos or thoughts to share!
Click on the link above to check it out,
or take a look at this one on SISTERS from my archives!

Thanks again for all your kind comments and encouragement
as I pursued this challenge!
A special thanks to Jenny Matlock of Alphabe-Thursday,
who inspired and challenged me to think of posts
for each letter of the alphabet.

And in case you wondering...
you never can tell...
I might just take up this challenge again!
Our God is limitless,
and therefore, so are His titles and names!

The ONE Who is The Rock!

MY ROCK!

"I waited patiently for the LORD;  And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.  He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a ROCK, And established my steps.  He has put a new song in my mouth - Praise to our God;  Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD."  Psalm 40:1-3

"For I proclaim the name of the LORD;
Ascribe greatness to our God.
He is the ROCK,
His work is perfect..."

This post dedicated to my sweet nephew Joel,
who is leaning on the ROCK today
as he faces his second brain surgery to remove
the cancerous glioblastoma.
Your prayers for him and the family appreciated!

The One Who Knows My Name!

"...I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name."

You saw me before I was ever born. Every day of my life was recorded in Your book.       Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.    Psalm 139:16

"Even before I was born,
God chose me
and called me by His marvelous grace."

"Do not be afraid...
I have called you by name;
You are mine.
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you."

One of my popular posts in Joy4Today was on the subject of names.
