The Finisher!

"Looking unto Jesus,
the author and
who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame,
and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God"
Hebrews 12:2

"being confident of this very thing,
that He who has begun a good work in you
will complete
until the day of Jesus Christ"
Philippians 1:6

Jesus said:
“When a woman gives birth, she has a hard time, there’s no getting around it. But when the baby is born, there is joy in the birth. This new life in the world wipes out memory of the pain. The sadness you have right now is similar to that pain, but the coming joy is also similar. When I see you again, you’ll be full of joy, and it will be a joy no one can rob from you. You’ll no longer be so full of questions.
“This is what I want you to do: Ask the Father for whatever is in keeping with the things I’ve revealed to you. Ask in my name, according to my will, and he’ll most certainly give it to you. Your joy will be a river overflowing its banks!"

God our Gardner

Just one more name from the Book of James!

"...Dear Friends:
Lead with your ears,
follow up with your tongue,
and let anger straggle along in the rear.
God's righteousness doesn't grow from human anger.
So throw all spoiled virtue and cancerous evil in the garbage.

In simple humility, let
 Our Gardner, GOD,
landscape you with the Word,
making a salvation-garden of your life."
James 1:19-21

Jesus - The Master

Our "Affinity Group" is winding up a study on the Book of James.
I've been reading it in several different translations,
and found it interesting that in "The Message" translation,
"The Master" as a name for Jesus is used 8 times.

James starts out his short book in the Bible by saying,
"I, James, am a slave of God,
and the Master, Jesus..."
James 1:1

In the last chapter, he advises us to...
"...Wait patiently for the Master's arrival..."
And assures us that...
"The Master could arrive at any time..."

James urges us to PRAY if we are hurting,
to SING if we feel great,
and to call the church leaders to PRAY over us,
anointing us with oil
in the Name of
the Master if we are SICK.
This MASTER can heal us inside and out!
James 5:13-15 The Message

I find it interesting that James, the half-brother of Jesus,
who earlier appeared to scoff at Jesus' ministry,
became the leader of the church in Jerusalem.
He was such a devout worshipper of Jesus as his Master
that he got the nickname "Camel Knees"
because of the calluses on his knees
from spending so much time in prayer.

Early church history has it that "James the Just",
"Camel Knees", also known as "Jakob"
the brother of our Lord Jesus Christ,
was seized by treacherous men
and tried for crimes punishable by death.
Some said he was hurled from the temple pinnacle
and clubbed to death for his bold faith in confessing that
Jesus Christ was his Master, Lord, Savior, and
Other records state he was a martyr that was stoned to death.

My God is "Unstoppable"!

The Rock below was used in another post,
but it seemed fitting to use it again in this one.

These are the words that Job uttered after losing
not only his wealth, but also his children:

"For God is so wise and so mighty,
Who has ever challenged Him successfully?
Without warning, He moves the mountains,
overturning them in His anger.
He shakes the earth in its place,
and its foundations tremble.
If He commands it, the sun won't rise
and the stars won't shine.
He alone has spread out the heavens
and marches on the waves of the sea.
He made all the stars - the Bear and Orion,
the Pleiades and the constellations of the southern sky.
He does great things too marvelous to understand.
He performs countless miracles.
Yet when He comes near I cannot see Him.
When He moves by, I cannot see Him go.
If He snatches someone in death,

 Who can stop Him?
'Who dares to ask,
What are you doing?'"
Job 9:4-12
Yet, Job did dare to question God,
and God answered him,
although it wasn't the way Job thought God would answer!
(You can find God's answers to Job HERE.)

After listening to God's answer, Job replied:
"I know that You can do anything,
and no one can stop You.
Job 42:2

King David also felt forsaken by God at times,
but he always came back to the thought
that God came mightily to his aid,
I love the word pictures David gives

"I cry to God to help me.
From His palace He hears my call;
my cry brings me right into His presence—
    a private audience!

Earth wobbles and lurches;

    huge mountains shake like leaves,
Quake like aspen leaves
    because of His rage.
His nostrils flare, bellowing smoke;
    His mouth spits fire.
Tongues of fire dart in and out;
    He lowers the sky.
He steps down;
under His feet an abyss opens up.
He’s riding a winged creature,
    swift on wind-wings.
Now He’s wrapped himself
in a trench coat of black-cloud darkness.
But His cloud-brightness bursts through,
    spraying hailstones and fireballs.
Then God thundered out of heaven;
the High God gave a great shout,
    spraying hailstones and fireballs.
God shoots His arrows—pandemonium!
    He hurls His lightnings—a rout!
The secret sources of ocean are exposed,
the hidden depths of earth lie uncovered
The moment you roar in protest,
    let loose your hurricane anger.

But me He caught
—reached all the way

    from sky to sea;
He pulled me out..."

God is relentless and UNSTOPPABLE
in coming to my aid when I call out to Him!

Father of Lights

God spoke: "Light!"
And LIGHT appeared.
God saw that light was good
and separated light from dark.
God named the light Day,
He named the dark Night.
It was evening, it was morning---
Day One.

Walk in the Light!
This, in essence, is the message
we heard from Christ
and are passing on to you:
there's not a trace of darkness in Him.

Jesus said, "I am the world's LIGHT.
No one who follows Me stumbles around in the darkness."
John 8:12 The Message

Every good gift and ever perfect gift is from above,
and comes down from THE FATHER OF LIGHTS...
James 1:16-18

...Rivers of light cascading down from the Father of LIGHT...
James 1:16-18 The Message

I hope this little study on LIGHT blesses you as it did me!

Isaiah 40

Isaiah 40 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible.
Featured below are only a few of the verses.
(To read the whole chapter click on the colored link
at the top of this post.)

"Comfort, comfort my people, says your God...
He tends His flock like a Shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in His arms
and carries them close to His heart...
Who has understood the mind of the LORD
or instructed Him as His counselor?
To whom, then will you compare God?
What image will you compare Him to?
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood since the earth was founded?
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to live in....
To whom will you compare Me?
Or Who is My equal? says the Holy One."
"Lift your eyes and look to the heavens;
Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one,
and calls them each by name.
Because of His great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing...
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and His understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint."

Thanks for stopping by!
I hope these verses have encouraged you
as much as they did me earlier today!

"Our Generous God"

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God,
who gives to all liberally and without reproach,
and it will be given to him."
James 1:5

 As bad as you are,
you still know how to give good gifts to your children.
But your heavenly Father is even more ready
to give good things to people who ask.
Matthew 7:11
Another translation of James 1:5 says,
"If you need wisdom,
and He will give it to you.
He will not rebuke you for asking."

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift
coming down to us from God our Father,
who created all the lights in the heavens.
He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.
He chose to give birth to us by giving us His true Word.
And we, out of all creation,
 became His Prized Possession
James 1:17-18

Amazing to me that God can be so many different things
to so many different people...

When I study God's names, I see different sides of His character
and learn to know Him better.
I am also learning to see myself differently
as I get to know Him better...
I'll be featuring these,
painted in sea shells, from time to time.
I hope they encourage you as well!

The Unforgettable One

Featuring the work of my granddaughter
on this Name for God...

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget,
    I will not forget you!"
Isaiah 49:15

It was King David who gave this name to the LORD!

"...My God is my Rock, in whom I take refuge,
my Shield and the horn of my salvation.
 my refuge and my Savior
— from violent people you save me."

Also in Psalm 18:2
"The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress and my Deliverer;
my God is my Rock, in whom I take refuge,
my Shield and the Horn of my salvation,

"The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear?
 — of whom shall I be afraid?"

"He is my loving God and my Fortress
MY STRONGHOLD and my Deliverer,
my Shield, in whom I take refuge"

Martin Luther used similar names for God in this powerful hymn.

Maybe you've noticed...
I haven't done too many posts on Joy4Today lately.
Bear with me!
Maybe I'll get inspired soon!

The Pathfinder

"Show me the path where I should walk, O LORD;
point out the right road for me to follow.
Lead me by Your truth and teach me,
for You are the God who saves me...
The LORD is good and does what is right;
He shows the proper path to those who go astray."
Psalm 25

"...We have these three witnesses:
the VOICE of the Holy Spirit in our hearts,
the VOICE from heaven at Christ’s baptism,
and the VOICE before he died.
And they all say the same thing:
that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."
1 John 5:6-8

And if you leave God’s paths and go astray,
you will hear a VOICE behind you say,
“No, this is the way; walk here.”
Isaiah 30:21
