The more I studied this Name for God,
the more I fell in love with the Owner of the Name!
This Name is only mentioned one time in the Bible,
although there are other references which could easily be applicable.
It was given by Moses to God
after their defeat of the Amalekites at Rephidim.
What an interesting story!
You can read about it HERE!
"So Joshua defeated the Amalekite army in battle.
God (Yahweh) said to Moses, 'Write this reminder on a scroll,
and make sure Joshua hears it, too...'
Moses built an altar and called it
(The LORD is my Banner)"
I did a short post on this last year,
(To see it click HERE)
but per request of my niece,
decided to feature it again.
She had done some research on it stating:
"JEHOVAH-NISSI (Je·ho′vah-nis′si). The name of the memorial altar erected by Moses after Israel’s successful battle against the Amalekites at Rephidim.—Ex 17:8, 13-16. The name means “Jehovah Is My Signal Pole,” deriving nis·si′ from nes (signal pole). The Greek Septuagint translators understood nis·si′ to be derived from nus (flee for refuge) and rendered it “Jehovah Is My Refuge,” while in the Latin Vulgate it was thought to be derived from na·sas′ (hoist; lift up) and was rendered “Jehovah Is My Exaltation.”
from Ex 17:15"
In studying further, I found that it could also mean,
"The LORD is my Miracle!"
